Me Made May – Kickoff!

And here’s my pledge:

I, Raphaëlle from http://www.deuxsouriceaux.wordpress.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’14. I endeavour to wear 4 items of handmade clothing per week for the duration of May 2014.

I saw some people include their children but I chose not to.  Both girls could actually wear handmades everyday with a little effort but I would rather let them keep control of their outfits within reason.  This isn’t going to be easy.  As of yesterday, I have 5 tops that I’ve sewn and can wear and 2 skirts.  Except one skirt is more Winter appropriate and the other one would require Spring to actually get here.  And one dress that I have yet to show off because it deserves good quality pictures.  Oh! I have a few hand and machine knits I could wear!  But I refuse to count a scarf as an item.  That would be too easy. So I’ve decided to add a little something to my pledge.

I pledge to make myself 5 items of clothing during the month of May 2014.

I’m starting with Juniper. Yes, it’s still cold which means I have no desire to sew shorts. These will be replacing some pants I got last Summer.  They were this pinky coral color and were fitted at the top but with nice wide legs.  I love this in the Summer.  I had them hemmed and the very first time I wore them, I tripped on the steps outside and ripped a hole in the knee.  There was no way to fix them and the store didn’t carry these pants anymore.  Juniper has a similar silhouette.  I got some Hampton Twill in Peacock from Hawthorne Threads for them. I thought it was going to be a nice dark teal but it’s really more on the green side.  Still with blue undertones though so it’ll work nicely with my other clothes.

If the weather warms up, I’ll be making one or two Iris shorts.  It’s been so hard finding shorts I like in stores!  The thigh is always on the tight side for my tastes.  I like a looser leg and these look right.  And even if they don’t, I’m making them!  I can do whatever I want!  I have some cute navy eyelet that’s just begging to be turned into shorts and some olive green linen that should also work well.

And then…  I don’t know!  There are so many options that I just can’t seem to commit to anything.  Anybody know how I could sew up some time?

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
