Photo Monday – Gowanus Canal

The girls have their gymnastics classes at PowerPlay in Gowanus. It’s kind of a weird neighborhood. Lots of industrial space and some more residential areas. Little bits of streets with lovely buildings and shops followed by blocks uninspiring concrete boxes with trucks coming and going. And there’s the canal. It’s horribly polluted but still has its charm.

There isn’t much to do during the class. I often use the time to go buy stuff at the nearby Whole Foods. I didn’t need anything this week and the classes were right before sunset. I grabbed my camera. These types of environment can make for pretty pictures with a little effort and I want to learn.

All of these were taken around that Whole Foods. There’s a walkway along the canal and they’ve made a real effort to make it welcoming.

Even the company on the other side has a colorful mural on its wall.

There was a seagull swimming in the water (not pictured). I hope it didn’t grow an extra eye or something…

I stayed as long as I could. I realized a little too late that the beautiful sky colors are actually after sunset. But I had to get back to pick up V (E’s class is longer). Besides, I strongly suspect that the colors are even prettier from our rooftop…

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?

That sunset is beautiful! The area you were in looks really interesting, and the photos really show the feel of the place!
