E had a race with her dad yesterday. The NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K. Such a random mix but also so New York… Anyway, E has run a couple 1 mile races and she wanted something more challenging. She enjoys running races. I mean, check out that smile! She makes it look so easy.
Training for them though, not so much. She only went on 2 or 3 training runs with her dad. He accompanied her on the race to help her pace herself and keep going. She ended up taking 5 walking breaks, which is pretty good, especially considering the lack of training. I think she’s going to run some more races at that distance. It’s just the right level for her. And then, maybe she can move up to 4 and 5 mile races…
As you can see, I was the photographer. V was the cheerleader and that’s who E is looking at in every picture. I went with ISO 800 to speed up my camera. Higher than that and everything starts getting grainy. Then, I went with the smallest aperture that still gave me an adequate shutter speed, exposure down 2/3 of a stop. I think that ended up being 7. These racing action shots are hard because you don’t get repeats. Jumping or twirling, you can have the model do over and over until you get something good. But I’m pretty happy with what I caught! The smile helps…

She was indeed quite happy with her race! Not even overly tired in the afternoon. And here I was, hoping for an early bedtime for her…
