Photo Monday – Finally Fall

Last Thursday, I was wearing sandals. Saturday, I finally got to wear my tweed blazer again. We ate out yesterday and a sweater was enough to be comfortable sitting outside. And then, we just walked around the neighborhood, me stopping every so often to take some pictures. I never knew there could be so many flowers at this time of year.

There are these plants with gorgeous leaves. They look like they’re all from the same family. Some of them are green with a dark red-purple heart and some are almost all red, purple or orange. I always admire them when I walk by but I’d never noticed they produce flowers too. The purple flowers against the orange leaves is very seasonal isn’t it?

A little further along, I wanted to get pictures of this vine. I showed it to V on our way back from school one day. It has these little berries ranging from a light green all the way to a dark purple, going through gorgeous shades of blue. My guess is it’s just varying levels of ripeness but it’s just magical to have all these colors together. I was busy taking pictures when a lady started telling me about the vine. Apparently, while very pretty, it’s an invasive species that can easily kill a tree. The people who live where it’s planted seem to have it under control though. It isn’t close to any trees and it’s in a pot which will probably keep it from growing too much.

I couldn’t resist a picture of a huge dead sunflower. What can I say? I’m feeling the Halloween vibes!
