Happy New Year! We are back in the land of the 3 month long November that tries to pass itself off as Winter…
The whole mouse family traveled northward to Québec for Christmas. Off to see the mouse grandparents, aunt, and uncle… We left a warm New York. Mr Mouse wasn’t sure we really needed the winter tires I insisted on. And he refused to bring his snow pants. Three snowfalls later, he’s quite happy he humored me… Actually, he was happy as soon as we left the well cleared roads on Christmas day. And he was happy when I loaned him my snow pants when he went out to shovel during the blizzard. I can’t help it… I was right, I was right, I was right! (Does a triumphant dance…)
Fun in the snow was had by all and I brought my trusty old point and shoot. Never have its limitations been more apparent. Well, it IS 5 years old. It’s a good little camera and I’ll still use it but Mr Mouse is getting me my DSLR as a late Christmas gift and I can’t wait. I tried and tried to get a good close-up of the pretty little snow/ice crystals on the tree branches. They looked like miniature evergreens! But all my pictures are blurry because my camera can’t get that close. My family gave me a few photography books and I tried to follow along with my camera. (I’m still having a hard time understanding exactly what ISO is but whatevs.) I could never find a way to set aperture myself. ISO, yes. White balance, yes. Even playing around with color. Aperture or shutter speed? No. I tried to find a way around that by changing the ISO. Maybe the camera would switch the aperture or shutter speed along with it? Nope. At least not in the limited test I did. Maybe I just need to find the owner manual to get my answer. Or maybe I just absolutely need that new camera…
So now, I have to play with Gimp. A lot. I’d rather take photos that don’t need much work. But there you go. And now, I stop complaining and show you what I have.
I love reading your comments! I will try to respond to every single one.
