Photo Monday – MoMA

Mr. Mouse has a friend from school who has a small exhibition at MoMA right now.  Wow, that makes him sound so connected…  Meiro Koizumi and Mr. Mouse were only in school together one year.  Roommates, I think.  I don’t think they’ve kept in touch.  Anyway, he wanted to go see his friend’s work so we went.  And I enjoy MoMA.  I know a lot of people think art museums are boring to children and they can be.  But I want the girls to develop an appreciation for art and to be inspired by it.  I’m no art teacher but I try to get a discussion going with souricette 1 anyway.  We discuss the art we see.  We ask her to show us her favorite pieces and to explain why she likes them.  And we do the same.  We try to make links between what we see and what we’ve seen elsewhere.

I also remembered to bring my camera.  As I got there, I had no clue what I was going to photograph.  You go to MoMa and you see so many people taking pictures of famous art.  I get it because we’ve done it but it’s still kind of stupid.  You might as well just buy a print.  But there’s sculptures!  So I focused on the ones that called out to me.  I was so busy trying to get good shots and making sure I hadn’t lost a child that I never thought to read about the artists.  Oops.  Guess I’ll just have to go back!

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
