I had planned a completely different post for today. I’ve sewn two garments for myself that I haven’t shared yet. But I’ve been obsessed with spinning lately. Obsessed, I tell you. I was cruising along with my corriedale, hoping to get the singles done before leaving on vacation. Last Sunday though, I saw that I didn’t have that much fiber left. I would definitely finish in time. And maybe I could ply it too! Once the thought entered my head. Yeah. One track mind. And I finished it!
None of you sound properly excited. Except maybe my spinning friends but they saw it a day early. I’ve put all my little hanks in the order I spun and or plied them. Far left, my very first singles (that’s one strand). And then, my first 2-ply (that would be 2 strands twisted together). The middle one was all spun and plied during this Tour de Fleece, also a 2-ply. The fourth one is 2-ply that was made from all that was left from the different balls of singles that I had (I had 5 of ’em). And then far right is the last bit of leftover singles that couldn’t get plied.
If you look closely, you’ll see it isn’t all even. Actually, no need to look that closely, it’s pretty obvious. It’s not all the same thickness. Keep in mind that this is my first e attempt at spinning. Ever. I’m actually pretty satisfied with myself! Just take a look at how my singles evolved.
On the left, you can see how it’s a little overspun. But look how pretty it is on the right! I am most definitely learning something…
I’m going to make some sort of scarf with all of it. I’m not sure how much I have because I didn’t take the time to measure. I’m just going to keep knitting until it’s all gone, starting from the hank on the left all the way to the right. So the scarf will show my spinning’s evolution. Now, I just need to figure out a stitch pattern. Ideas, anyone?
Ooooh, but Tour de Fleece isn’t over yet, is it? So I need something else to keep me occupied, right? How about some yummy alpaca on a very pretty little spindle?
This fluff is so soft… I just need to avoid spinning long enough to get one last little sewing project done before we leave…

Lovely spindle — is it a Golding? — and lovely alpaca!

Yes, a Golding! It’s much smaller than my other spindle so it took some getting used to but I really like it. The alpaca is so soft. It came predrafted so it falls apart easily but I’m getting the hang of it.
