Enter a Brave New Project!

Look at what souricette 1 helped me pick out at Joann’s on Wednesday!

Wanna guess what we’re making?  This!

Souricette 1 has wanted for us to make a tapestry of our family for months.  Just like in Brave.  It’s a sweet idea and I love helping her with her creative ideas.  We just lack the amount of time necessary to her usually very elaborate plans.  Since we have two more full weeks before she starts school, I figured we could work this project in.  So shopping we went.

Now, we’re still going to simplify this loads.  This should be a tapestry but it’ll be more a combination of appliqué and embroidery.  Done together.  I already have a decent stash of fabric for creating our clothes so we’ll be using that.  We didn’t have anything to mimic our skin so I got some peachy-beige-whitish cotton.  And some pearl cotton for embroidering hair.  Except for the blue.  I thought I might embroider some extra celtic-ish designs but we’ll see…  For the background, I wanted something of a heavier weight.  I was thinking of some linen type fabric in a natural color but everything was way too expensive.  Souricette 1 showed me another fabric.  It looked sort of like leather but with a leafy pattern on it.  She explained she wanted brown with a design on it.  So we ended up with quilting cotton.  I guess I’ll have to interface it to make it a little sturdier.  She also chose the cream rope to make that circle around the family.

This will be fun!  And a lot of work….

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
