I promised I would show off my playful Verona dress (pattern here) and here it is!
If it looks a lot like the first one, that’s because the pattern pieces only changed a tiny bit between this version and the final one.
For this one, I used the curved cap sleeve. And striped fabric. I bought this rainbow stripe last Summer. I saw it and knew both girls would go wild for it so I bought two yards of it. This dress used roughly one yard. Maybe a little more since I managed to screw up the cutting. PSA: Do not cut your fabric when exhausted.
I chose yellow as my contrast. It doesn’t actually match the yellow in the dress but I felt that it worked with the overall look of the stripes.
I also decided to play with the direction of the stripes. I really wanted vertical stripes on the bodice but I liked horizontal for the skirt. Plus, those stripes were so helpful when it came to hemming and creating that casing. Just follow the stripe and you have a perfectly straight line!
And just compare this dress to the other one… The other one is so sweet and classic. It looks a little like a special occasion dress. And this one. It reminds me of a circus. No? Look at it with circus styling.
Ummm, I know. She isn’t taming her lion. But come on! She does look like she belongs in a circus!
Or maybe that’s just her personality…
In any case, she’s been wearing this dress quite a bit. I knew that stripe was a winner when I saw it…
La robe et la demoiselle sont “pétillantes” BRAVO !!! joëlle

What a fun dress! It makes me think of unicorns and happy things! I didn’t realize that the yellow wasn’t in the dress until you mentioned it. I think it works better than the yellow in the dress would have. It really helps the dress pop! What fun!

Thank you! I think it’s because the stripe gives the impression of being a rainbow even if it isn’t really a rainbow. The bright yellow picks up on that rainbow impression so it works out.

My daughters would go crazy over this one! I didn’t notice the yellow was different until you mentioned it. =) It does make a darling circus dress. =)

Yep, the rainbow effect is very attractive to little girls, isn’t it? My daughter definitely favors this one over the softer one. Big sister also had an envious look in her eye and wanted to know if there would be enough rainbow fabric for her. And yes, I made sure to buy enough for two kids.

That was a wise purchasing decision. =) I generally buy enough fabric for only one garment and really regret it later.
