I promised I would show off my playful Verona dress (pattern here) and here it is!
If it looks a lot like the first one, that’s because the pattern pieces only changed a tiny bit between this version and the final one.
For this one, I used the curved cap sleeve. And striped fabric. I bought this rainbow stripe last Summer. I saw it and knew both girls would go wild for it so I bought two yards of it. This dress used roughly one yard. Maybe a little more since I managed to screw up the cutting. PSA: Do not cut your fabric when exhausted.
I chose yellow as my contrast. It doesn’t actually match the yellow in the dress but I felt that it worked with the overall look of the stripes.
I also decided to play with the direction of the stripes. I really wanted vertical stripes on the bodice but I liked horizontal for the skirt. Plus, those stripes were so helpful when it came to hemming and creating that casing. Just follow the stripe and you have a perfectly straight line!
And just compare this dress to the other one… The other one is so sweet and classic. It looks a little like a special occasion dress. And this one. It reminds me of a circus. No? Look at it with circus styling.
Ummm, I know. She isn’t taming her lion. But come on! She does look like she belongs in a circus!
Or maybe that’s just her personality…
In any case, she’s been wearing this dress quite a bit. I knew that stripe was a winner when I saw it…
