This week? Was not a good week for productivity. I had the girls with me most of the time on top of a to do list a mile long. I had to go to bed way too late to get this done before the end of Kids Clothes Week. And pictures got taken in a hurry.
Pattern is the Fawn Lily. I’ve had it for a bit. The design lines just got me right away when the pattern came out but it took me a while to get to it. I loved the pattern and the instructions are clear but I wasn’t crazy about the photographs illustrating the steps. I’ve said before that I prefer illustrations but that can be a lot more work. I get that some designers just don’t have the energy for it. However, if you’re going to do pictures, I think a white background is a must. In this pattern, some pictures are against a white background and some are against a light wood background. I found those pictures to be more confusing. Maybe that wouldn’t have been the case if I had been less sleep-deprived…
According to the chart, E was supposed to fit a size 4. I made a 5. She can put it on but needs a bit of help. If I make it again for her, I might go up to a 6. She’s taller than the size 5 but I still hemmed an extra inch off the bottom of the tunic. Otherwise, it would have been more like a mini dress than a tunic.
I made the plain sleeve and the A-line. I didn’t have a whole lot of the rainbow stripes left. In fact, I had to do some creative seaming in the back…
Please ignore the bad pressing job on the bodice. I worked on this thing until 1AM on Thursday night. Friday morning, I hand stitched the bottom of the sleeve lining. Hemming had to wait until afternoon. No final press happened after that.
Also, E likes her tunic way more than she looks like she does. She had just woken up from a very uncharacteristic nap and we couldn’t wait because it was just starting to rain.
You’ve seen that rainbow fabric before here and here. The yellow is actually leftover from the dress and the orange from the skort (it was used to make the under shorts).
V has requested a Fawn Lily too so I guess there’s another one in my future… I might even be able to scavenge some rainbow scraps for the bodice…
That is such a fun top! I love the way the rainbow fabric looks around the neckline! I prefer illustrations too. It’s good to know that the larger sizes of this pattern can be a bit tight and long!

Thank you! Something about stripes makes me want to make bias tape! I’m wondering if the length thing might just be that the designer and I have a different idea of how long a tunic should be.
