Photo Monday – As They Are

I haven’t messed around with my 50mm lens in such a long time. It goes very wide open which can be lots of fun. And I haven’t taken pictures of the girls in ages – just them, not them as models for what I make. I tried to get them in their natural state but it was harder than I anticipated. E has been reading so much but rather than lounge in the living room, she went to her bed. Top bunk. That didn’t work. But she did practice her violin.

I always listen to her practice but I never see her. I don’t want to distract her. I never knew that she sometimes closes her eyes. Very briefly, but slower than a blink. It’s lovely.

And then, I tried to get V playing. There’s a spot in the living room where she sets up. There’s a wide ledge on the window and a tree stump side table that she uses as a stool. She sits there and draws, pretends that she’s playing the piano, invents and acts out elaborate stories… But she’d gotten a hold of her father’s phone and the best I could do was get her to sit close to the light. And try to get her to look at me.

Both girls and their father also set out to make chocolate covered marshmallows. I thought that would be fun but the kitchen is so small… They did ham it up for me before getting to work at least.

E can be so serious and then she gives me these looks. Or makes that little observation. And I crack up.

And V, well, this is her. So her. Laughter and singing (improvised), gymnastics and dancing, and so much chatter. Most of the time, pictures of her are blurry. It’s fitting.

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
