The girls asked to go to the zoo yesterday. Since we had no defined plans and the Prospect Park zoo isn’t very far (25 minute walk), we went. I brought my camera with the macro lens on. At 100mm, it also works well as a short telephoto lens. And that zoo is small, no elephants or anything like that. The animals are fairly close. There were times when I would have needed more like an 85mm lens.
We got there just in time for the sea lions’ feeding and training time. The good spots were already taken but I did get one good shot of one of them. (There are two of them, both females. The males are kept at the Queens zoo, apparently.)
The zoo has some peacocks just roaming around all over the place. I counted 4 males and 2 females. One of the males stayed close to one female and the 3 other males seemed to all be pursuing the other female…
We visited the outdoor space that has animals that appreciate the local climate.
The dingo is actually behind some sort of screen. I wasn’t even going to try to get a picture but he was so pretty. I took one crappy picture and noticed the screen wasn’t showing up in the picture so I placed myself to get a better composition. I’m wondering whether that screen is meant to make pictures easier.
And this little guy was an intruder in the prairie dog section (along with a couple peacocks) but he was so cute!
Found a little dinosaur in its egg. Took a picture from behind some tall grass so it wouldn’t see me…
There are a couple buildings housing animals as well. Again, I thought the glass would prevent me from getting decent pictures but it worked out way better than I thought it would.
I’m guessing there’s a mother somewhere under that pile of baby mongoose. Mongooses? Mongeese? Whatever, they were cute but I felt for the mom…
Your photos are stunning!
