Photo Monday – Flowers

M gave me these flowers for Mother’s Day last week. So pretty but I could see see they wouldn’t last. I tried to take pictures right away on Monday but it was rainy and cloudy and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get any details. Everything was so grainy and dark. I even put them right on the windowsill to get the most light possible. This is the only decent one I got. And I’m mostly sharing it for comparison purposes. Just notice the light, the color. I adjusted the white balance for a cloudy day but it’s still very cool.

Tuesday, it was still dark and rainy. Not proper May weather. Wednesday though, it was so bright and sunny! The flowers were still on the windowsill. The one that gets morning sunlight. The flowers were fading fast so I didn’t have as many options for blooms to photograph.

I had early morning light (took these between something like 6AM and 7AM). It was so yellow! I adjusted the white balance a little. Even with warming up the cloudy image and cooling down the morning Sun images, the difference is phenomenal!

And thanks to that light, I was able to get the detail shots I really wanted. Do you see the little hairs? I didn’t see those before getting a look at the pictures. I’m always amazed at all the little things that macro photography reveals.

And now, writing this, I just realized that I should have pulled out the flash on Monday. I totally spaced out on that…

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
