Rooftop

It’s been so grey and rainy lately. Add being confined indoors almost all the time and natural light photography opportunities are low on the ground. So when we had a sunny day last week, I hurried up to the roof in the hopes of finding something, anything interesting. Luckily, we have neighbors who had to have their roof redone and they needed a place to put their furniture and plants. We offered our space.

Fun fact: they have the exact same table as us! And they have quite a few plants. Nothing flowering but different greenery than what I usually get.

I also checked our clematis. It seemed dead last Winter but I’d seen some green popping up last time I was up there. I’d removed the dead branches and this week, it was full of new leaves, blowing in the wind. I don’t know whether it’ll be able to give us flowers this year but it’s growing.

And I looked out at the city. I haven’t been there in months. From here, it looks the same as ever but knowing how it has been silenced… I hardly noticed when I was up there but I didn’t see a single plane heading to La Guardia (they usually fly over us and sometimes, we can see 4 or 5 at once). And no helicopters. There’s a hospital not far from where I live so I regularly hear ambulances. I never used to notice them but now, each siren brings my thoughts right to all those health professionals and I fear for them. And I wish I could go and help but all I can do is stay home. So I stay home.
