V’s Artwork

One of V’s Christmas gifts was a pour paint set. The paint came premixed in tubes, 32 colors, I think. And then she had a set of 8″x8″ canvasses. The size is perfect for doing at home with minimal messes. And it’s perfect for a 9 year old child. Big enough to be able to try out different techniques but not so big that it gets hard to manage. She set herself up on a plastic tray (we have 5 that I bought specifically for art projects), got herself a disposable cup, and went to work. I believe it took her less than 2 weeks to get through all the canvasses… She was impatient though. That amount of paint takes a long time to dry and she kept touching them. She put them down on newspaper to dry and some of it stayed stuck to the bottom of the canvasses. And then, when she thought they were dry, she stacked them. But they were still tacky so the newspaper then stuck to the front…

So mine (the one just above) has some newspaper stuck to it. I still love it. It makes me think of an underwater scene of some sort. It’s hard to tell but the lighter color is actually metallic. It feels a little tacky even now and I wasn’t able to remove all the dust (it on a shelf, leaned up against the wall so dust settles on it a little).

I love all the intricate patterning V created in her work. It’s endlessly interesting to look at. Relaxing, even. I’m thinking she could maybe reuse some of the less successful canvasses to try out different color combinations (some of them are quite ruined from her messing with them before they were dry). And we could try different supports. We have lots of leftover paint…
