It’s been a while since I’ve taken pictures of the girls and I’ve been missing it. Except I was exceptionally low energy yesterday and the light sucked (as in there was none). But then, I remembered that my new camera does a much better job than the old one in low light situations. So I snapped a few pics of them right where they were. V in her bed with a book, E on the couch with her phone, and I even got the cat! You can tell he’s still afraid of the camera but he didn’t run away so I’m calling it progress…
My original plan was black and white pictures to enhance the dramatic lighting (especially in the picture of V) but it felt too harsh. So instead, I brought the saturation way down and then messed around with the slow specific saturation to get the effect I wanted. Like, with the cat, I bumped up the saturation on the green to keep the Christmas tree from turning into a grey blob. And on the picture of V, I bumped the saturation up on orange, red, and blue to enliven her skin and lips as well as the blanket. I’m especially happy with that picture because I got the exact image I wanted.

Happy New year to you! These pictures are so beautiful – I love the concerned kitty, it looks so great with the tree in the foreground. And both photos of your daughters have so much personality.

Thank you! I wanted to catch them just as they usually are.
