Ruta Puuc

There are 5 archeological sites on the Rita Puuc. We visited 3 of them: Labna, Xlapak, and Sayil. We skipped the Kabah and Uxmal (the biggest one and also the one that gets tourist buses). To be honest, I would have liked to visit all of them but there was no time for it.

I don’t know exactly what this bug is. They looked like large grasshoppers but then, they also had wings that made them look like butterflies. I couldn’t get a good picture with the wings open. They were red and black. Really cool bug.

We saw thousands of butterflies on the sites and the road. And by thousands, I might be lowballing. Driving, it sometimes felt like we were being attacked. So many yellow butterflies! It was magical. I tried so hard to get a picture but they were moving too fast and the best I could get was a yellow blur. I did get some of the other ones.

We made our way to Campeche after the visits. Since we were on back roads, we had to stop in some out of the way village for lunch. We just went to a small restaurant where they served two things. And it was delicious. We ate so well during the whole trip, whether we were at higher end restaurants that cater to tourists or in small cafes where tourists are practically unheard of.

Creative mommy at home to two wonderful little girls, trying to juggle family, sewing, exercise, family, knitting, photography, and did I mention family?
